How to go from Standard Edition to Enterprise? SQL 2008 R2 SP2

  • Hello,

I have Standard Edition of SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 installed. I like to upgrade this to the Enterprise Edition. Do I need the Enterprise Edition of SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 setup program? Could I do this with a SQL Server 2008 R2 install program that does not include the SP2? I have the license key, but how can I do the upgrade?

I am concerned about the SP2 not getting applied on the Enterprise installation, if I just run the SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition.

  • Just run through the install again and it will ask you for a new key, just punch in the Enterprise key. My Local IT thought it would be helpful to install the SQL server for me, and used our Standard key as opposed to my Enterprise Key

  • Try to use SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition slipstreamed with SP2.
