I need to upgrade my SQL Server 2000/SP4 W2003/Sp1 Cluster

  • Greetings all,

This is a fairly general question so I welcome all comments.

    The environment:

    2 node cluster-SQL Server 2000/SP4-W2003/Sp1

I need to update the OS to SP2 and then install a post SP2 hotfix. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957910

This is being done to support an updated EMC driver.

This is a vendor provided database. The SP2 install will move me from a 'certified' state to a 'supported' state.

Are there any specific issues I should be aware of?

What's the preferred method? I will have a maintenance window this weekend.

    1) Update the passive server. Failover to the passive. Wait and see if there are any issues with the possibility of failing back to the SP1 machine.

    2) Update both servers during my maintenance window.

Thanks to anyone who can offer their comments.

  • I don't think you will face any challenges, Upgrade Passive node and failover SQL instance to passive node and do the failover\failback few times before you upgrade other node. It should be straight forward. I did not see any issues after OS upgrade, only thing is make sure both cluster nodes are at same SP level.

    EnjoY!
