Can you provide more details? I've been using SQL Server 2008 for over a year now (since CTP5) and I have never had any problems connecting remotely.
Are you using a named instance?
Are you using a static or dynamic TCP port?
Is the TCP/IP protocol enabled in SQL Server Configuration Manager? (Start, Run, SQLServerManager10.msc)
Is the SQL Server Browser service running?
In other words, there's nothing special about remotely connecting to a 2008 instance versus a 2005 instance. Can you ping the server? Can you telnet to the IP:port?
