Installation security

    Hi there,

    I would like to know what security group I should give our people who need to install vendor-supplied applications that use SQL Sever.  They need to be able to install/upgrade applications and create databases, but I don't want them to have access to the other databases on the same instance.  Is System Administrator access the only option?

    The dbcreator fixed server role will allow database creation. It does not, give any particular access to an already existing database. Of course, if a given user creates a database, they are the database owner and mapped to dbo for said database. As a result, they would have full ability to apply permissions, changes, etc.
