Installing SQL 2K5 instance on 64-bit running 15 SQL 2K instances?!?!

  • Pointy haired one wants to install SQL 2005 on a Windows 2003 64-bit server that has 15 (including default) instances of SQL 2k already installed.

After researching, I'm thinking this just might be possible but I'm not sure if I'd have to uninstall one of the instances and just what ramifications I might encounter during and/or after installation.

Also wondering about the best way to manage the server once 2K5 is installed.

    Thoughts anyone?

    Thanks in advance,

    Gary

  • I don't see any issues, not that I've worked that many instances. You'll need to use the sql 2005 tools to administer 2005 fully, you don't have to install any client stuff on the server. I run sql 2000 and sql 2005 on serveral servers.
