Is SSIS needed to run an SSIS package?

  • Hi,

This may sound silly... but I remember doing something like this once before, but since its been very long I wanted to check with you guys.

If I develop an SSIS package on DEV server and generate the 'build', would I be able to run the package on PROD server that does not have SSIS installed? I guess, once you generate a 'build', its all binary and could be executed from command prompt.

Its a simple package, lets say, and assume that login details are not a problem. If it is possible, could I use the SSIS deployment utility to deploy this in PROD? or do I need SSIS installed in PROD as well?

    Any help would be great,

  • SSIS Packages will only run on an SSIS Server of the appropriate edition. Some basic transformations are available on a SQL Server without SSIS installed. These are the ones needed for the extract wizards and maintenance plans. For anything else, you need to install the edition of SSIS that includes the components in your package.
