An simple question:
Using CALs with SQL2K on Win2K, if a client is only accessing the server for SQL2K, would a CAL be required for both Win2K and SQL2K? Also, does the authentication method affect this?

I had already reviewed the SQL Server licensing info on the MS web site. However, what it doesn't answer is if a Windows 2000 Server CAL is also required (thus the authentication portion of my question).
Presuming that a user is not accessing any aspect of the server other than SQL Server, is a Windows 2000 Server CAL required? And does this hold true for Win Server 2003? And does the authentication method (SQL Login vs. Windows login) affect this (since a Windows login would then be utilizing the authentication services of Windows itself)?

Hi
SQL Server cant be used unless you have a Windows licence. So, if your running CALS on the OS, one gets chewed here and again for the user accessing sql server. Going over the OS CALs but still connecting to SQL Server? then its a breach of the licence.
