Yeah I'll have to drag them out of the closet, first I want some NT gurus look at. It's too wierd. On the client that's not part of the domain I connect to one of the SQL servers but not the other, and on the one I connect to event log on that server keeps showing me failure audits event id 529 and 681, over and over again as if it keeps trying to win autheticate while being connected through SQL authetication, Very Wierd

Found the answer, coming from an untrusted domain is the problem.
Even though I register my Server with a SQL server user login my EM still uses NT authetication to do polling.
To stop polling - go to EM, options, and uncheck Server State Polling. This stopped all the errors in the NT Security event log.
Of course this means I'm blind using EM if a service goes down, but I use email and page notification on that anyway.

Other items that hindered
Lan Manager authetication level should be equal 2K and above, NTLMv2 gave me a problem on xp pro, on 2003 it didn't.
Also one of the servers was listing on a port other than 1433.
Any thoughts on my answer would be most welcome.

Very interesting conclusion, John. I was not aware that EM acts a client, but it actually makes sense. I suppose that's where EM separates you as the Database Administrator vs. the System Administrator for the server.
