Memory allocation rule of thumb

  • Hi Experts,

We have a SQL Server 2012 Enterprise edition cluster (2 node) installed on Windows 2012 R2 Std. server.

256 GB RAM is available in both the node and it is dedicated DB server.

It's pure OLTP database and only DB engine and client is installed.

In this setup, how much memory we should allocate to SQL Server ideally ?

I understand that it depends, however what's the rule of thumb here to allocate memory to SQL Server ?

    Thanks,

    San.
