Mixing SQL2000 and SQL2005 on a cluster

  • We have a 3 node cluster running multiple SQL 2000 instances. Does anyone know if there are any issues around adding one or more SQL 2005 instances to this cluster? I'm assuming we'd have to limit it to 4 nodes as long as there is any SQL 2000 present.

On one of the other forums I found the comment 'SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server2005 can co-exist on the same server. However, be sure to install SQL Server 2000 first and then SQL Server 2005'.  Presumably that applies to clusters also? Anything else to watch out for?

    Thanks

    Julie

  • I wouldn't count on sql server 2000 and sql 2005 living happily together on a cluster. A test would be at place.

You surely can install 2005 next to 2000 like installing sql 2000 next to sql server 7
