Multi distributor for a single publisher

  • Does anyone know if one Database can be configured to use two different distributor for replication?

I have a server A that is currently acting as Publisher, Distributor, and subscriber.  It has subscription to its own articles.

I would like to create a new publication, however I like to use Server B as the distributor while keeping the distributor on Server A for its existing publications.  I have attempted to do this however there is no luck, both from the GUI and Scripting environment.

I can completely remove the replication from server A and redo it again however configure it to use a server B as the distributor and works just fine.  When I do this I use the script that is generated and revert back to original configuration and I try to run the scripts, however several problems come up, the main thing is the REPL_Distributor already exist.

Has anyone done such a thing?

    Thank you in advance.

  • No its not possible. Each publisher can only use a single distribution database. A distributor can be a distributor for multiple publisher and this distributor can have a seperate distribution datababse for each publisher.

  • Thank you.  Although there is no documentation out there that clearly indicates this, eventually I found out that it is by Design that a publisher can not have multiple distributor.
