PBs installing Reportbuilder (SSRS 2008R2)

  • Every time I try to launch ReportBuilder, it promptsme for installing .Net Framework 3.5...

I download it and launch the exe but nothing seems to happen 🙁

I already have .Net Framework 4 installed (as well as .NetCompact Framework 3.5 and .Net Compact Framework 2.0 sp2).

    Any idea?

I'd love to test that report builder... 🙂

  • The user login I use is in the Administrators group.

Yet... If I login as the builtin Administrator, ReportBuilder works fine...

Just to make sure, I logged in back with my usual login and it still would not work and prompt me for installing .Net Framework 3.5

    Spooky...

  • Just in case this is useful... I run Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits (within a virtual machine)

  • Ten

.Net FRamework i3.5.1 is part of WIndows 7 already and is also included in 4.0framework but you have to enable it.

go to control panel --> Programs --> Programs and features -->Turn windows features on and off..

Make sure the .net framework 3.5.1 is checked

    JD

  • Yep, there were two sub-options and I enabled both ("Windows Communication Foundation HTTP Activation" and "Windows Communication Foundation Non-HTTP Activation") but it still prompts me for installing the .Net framework 3.5.

Could it be some Security Setting?... 🙁

In "Turn Windows features on or off", there are quite a few Security options under

Internet Information Services / World Wide Web Services / Security

So far, only Request Filtering is enabled...

Do I need to enable more?

    :crying:

  • Thinking about it... This has got to be user/security specific because it works fine when I login as the builtin Administrator... 😎

  • I suppose this has nothing to do with it, but I can use ReportBuilder 1 (on SSRS 2008 instead of 2008R2) fine on the same machine...

  • Yes you can. Download and Install it as a Stand Alone App.

  • Well I like RB 3.0 better because of the new features.

  • Sounds like a case of UAC getting in the way. Is it disabled on your machine?

  • Nop but I agree it sounds like this.

UAC and I are not in good terms... :ermm:

I think your with the majority of everyone else I know, UAC is a royal PITA

  • For once, it does not appear to be the culprit...

I disabled it, rebooted... and found the same problem again.

Actually, this is not a bad idea!

I installed 3.0 as a standalone app and it works fine.

It still does not work when fired from Report Manager but it does not matter so much since it's a development box...

    Thanks

    Eric
