Permissions and cubes

  • Good day

I am fairly new to the SSAS / cube world.  I have a user that has created some pivot tables in excel, and has tried to share the spreadsheets with other co-workers, and they are getting the following error:

    Microsoft Excel

Initialization of the data source failed.

Check the database server or contact your database administrator.  Make sure the external database is available, and then try the operation again.  If you see this message again, create a new data source to connect to the database.

I have tried creating the new datasource, that did not work, I tried adding the user to the SQL Server database (the source the cube gets its data, not the cube), is there a place to assign permissions to the cube?  Perhaps it is BSM that needs permissions assigned...any help would be great...

  • We figured it out - the user needed some files loaded on the machine

    msxml6.msi and SQLServer2005_ASOLEDB9.msi
