  Why is it that I am only given dbo access.  I am the DBA should I at least have sysadmin?

  Maybe it's first step to dba? If you are a newbie on SQL Server the real dba doesn't want you to permit all rights till you won't read enough books?

  I remember myself in that situation  Though I was given a test sql server with sa rights

  I think you must ask this who gave you such rights
