Problems attaching a database

  I'm getting the error:

  Server: Msg 5173, Level 16, State 2, Line 1

  Cannot associate files with different databases.

  Here is the scenario. We had to kill a backup because it was running too long. Then I attempted to detach and re-attach the database. Now I am unable to re-attach. I tried re-attaching the single .mdf file and get the same error. Any thoughts? I realize I can simply restore again but that takes 3 hours.
