Recovery Mode

    I want to change recovery mode from simple to full,  should i be checking with software vendor prior to this or should i just be able to change the mode without and detromental effects

    Whoever is responsible for monitoring the database and controlling the backups will certainly need to know as there will now be a requirement for Log backups, and the Log File will now grow.

    See Books Online under 'Recovery Models'/'Selecting a Recovery Model'.

    Anyone just using the database will probably notice nothing different.

    I would check with the vendor, as the application may not let you change it. If the application is doing bcp or something similar, it may not let you run in FULL Recovery Mode. I have had this situation before and there was not anything I could do, as it was a purchased application and it runs the way the vendor wants it to run.

    Definitely check with the vendor. Even MS (as I found out with MOM 2005) ...
