That's for SQL 2000. There are better ways of investigating deadlocks on SQL 2005/2008.

During the search crawl? If so, deadlocks are expected and are not a concern. The crawl handles them.
Do note that you cannot make schema or index changes to a sharepoint database without losing support for it.
