Row or Page lock ?

    Silly question: what is the default lock for sql server 2008 R2 ?

    Depends on the number of rows affected, the amount of locks and lock memory already and probably a few other factors.

    It depends,

    let take an example of an update statement, if the number of rows effected by the statement is one or little more it will put row level lock, if its more (suppose most of the rows of table) it will put table level lock.

    as gail said its depend on the no. of rows effected by the statement.
