Saving SSIS Export package

  • Hi,

The final step of a process consists of exporting data from tables to a flat file, which I used to do manually through the SQL export wizard. I am trying to save the actual dtsx created by the engine so I could automate the process however whenever choosing to save the SSIS package to either SQL Server or File system the saving process fails with an 'unspecified Error'. Please advise.

    Regards,

    Sam

  • Just tried to manually design the SSIS package, consists of OLEDB Source and a flat file destination... however the package won't save either generating the following error: An invalid character was found in text content.

    feedback anyone!

  • seems that this issue was a bug and has been resolved by a hotfix. However it is better recommended to download the SQL 2008 R2 SP1 for that purpose.

  • Note that I have just downloaded the Service Pack 1 in vain... problem persists!

I guess you need the cumulative update package 6 for SP1. So sp1 alone is not enough.

  • well I almost downloaded it until I read the following:

WARNING This hotfix has not undergone full testing.

If you decide to install this hotfix, please note the following items:

Do not deploy a hotfix in a production environment without first testing the hotfix.

Back up the system or the computer that will receive the hotfix before you install the hotfix.

Can someone guarantee this fix actually works and has no negative impact whatsoever?

You need to ask Microsoft that question, not some unknown forum members.
