scheduled reboots w/ large DBs ?

  • We are running SQL Server 2000 and Windows 2003 Server. Our DB is around 400 GB. The large DB size is due to use of blob types.

My question is: will I get any benefit from having a scheduled reboot of my SQL Server. As far as I know we do not have any applications with memory leaks.

Currently we have no scheduled reboots. The issue was raised whether normal practice is to have scheduled reboots.

  • My largest database is 245+ GB and I don't have scheduled reboots. I reboot on an "as needed" basis. Updates, Service Packs, anything that might require a reboot - that's all. I never do it 'just to do it'.
