Seeking Advise for DTA

  • Hi Everybody

When I tried to analyze one ad-hoc query with DTA, the DTA suggested nothing for creating a nonclustered index, but when I reviewed it's execution plan there was a message for missing ncl index and also verified through missing_index_detail DMV. How it was happened?. Why this contradiction?

To analyze 1 query or representative workload with DTA over LAN can be time intensive? If it takes time than what can I do?

  • can u elaborate ur query pls?

  • DTA's not perfect. It's far from it. Take any recommendations as suggestions to start from, nothing more.

Yes, it takes time to do an analysis. Run it locally against a test database or be patient. Do not ever run DTA directly against a production DB.
