  I have a SQL 2000 CLuster running on Windows 2003 which is hosted by Virtual Server 2005 with Windows 2003 as the Host OS... Still with me? All is well with the Cluster except when I try to apply SP3a, I get Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library - Runtime Error! Program : C:\DOCUME~1\cluster\LOCALS~1\Temp\_ISTMP3.DIR\_INS5576._MP abnormal program termination.....

  Anyone have any ideas?

  There needs to be set some variables:

  User variables TEMP an TMP needs to point to C:\Temp, not the C:\Docume~1... etc

  System variables TEMP and TMP needs to point to C:\Temp, not the C:\Docume~1.. etc

  So change those four variables and try again.

  This solved a problem like yours on our cluster.
