Slow database performance on a higher spec server

  • A fundamental part of fault finding and performance tuning is to ensure you test on like for like systems. Might I suggest an investment in a tool such as Redgate's SQL Compare, this might have saved you two months postings!! < grin >

  • How would SQL Compare help in this instance, when the database was identical on both servers?   (The same database with the same missing index ran fine on one server and really poorly on another.)

Or is there functionality in Red Gate SQL Compare that I'm not aware of, that will tell me what execution plan each server will use and why?
