Somebody connects to DB from Remote and changes the config values in the system- how to stop???

  • Friends,

Contd from the last problem, the machine on which we hv hosted hte sql server 2K can also be seen by remote users - some smart users connect to the system through query analyzer and change the values in some of the configurations - which creates further problem for users.

I am not able to find out a way out of this - to recognize and stop. I can nt disable the remote access as well.

Can I trace the person and store this information somewhere??

    Thanks in Advance,

    Shashi

  • on which os your sql server installed?.

  • on Win 2k Advanced and win 2k - standard

  • First of all it is better don't allow remote access to Data server .I don't know what is specific to u to give remote access to users to eneter server.

You can use event viewer security logs to view user details. Also u can put security policy to restrict users remote access to server.

in sql u can use sql profiler to trace user and activities. u can put options according to your criteria.
