SP and Patch Notifications

  • I am currently setup to receive security alerts from Microsoft but I don't always know when a new security patch or a new service pack is available for SQL Server.

Currently, I maintain my awareness of these things by the simple fact of working with SQL Server and I am always checking for these types of things.

How do the rest of you remain aware of new SPs and security patches?

I am having to document all of my company-specific SQL Server administration duties and this is one of the things they want.

    Thanks for the input.

  • Typically one of us posts in the service pack or security section of the forums here as soon as a new patch or SP is released.

  • Hi hawg,

subscribing to MS security alerts is a starting point I also use. Further I keep my eyes open while joining forums like this one. There are also mailinglist from websites like http://www.securityfocus.com or alike. This has proven to work fine, but I doubt you can write this down in some kind of company security guidelines

    Cheers,

    Frank
