sp_addlinkedserver over subnet

    Is it possible to add a linked server that is on a different subnet?

    As long as you can register an SQL Server from your EM, you should have no problem at all to link any SQL Server.

    If you can ping it by DNS name (who uses plain old IP adddress - it is so inflexible) and telnet into TCP port 1433 and UDP port 1434 you should have no problems. If things are firewalled between networks then there are a number of ports that need to be opened as well.
