SQL 2k Agent and MSDTC

  • I have a Windows 2003 server 32 bit running legacy SQL 2k sp4 EE. Over the weekend we had an issue after reboot that the Agent service would not remain active. The log indicated the service was stopped by a user, process or the os. We determined OS. After working with MS support we determined MSDTC was not on the server and this was causing the issue. This was new to me. So the question is does anyone if MSDTC is required for the SQL Agent Service to remain active?

    Thanks for your support, Ray

  • If you have transactional replication set up in your enviorment, it uses Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) component included with SQL Server 2000, to execute transactions.

    Thanks,

    Rohan

  • Ok, other than transactional replication what other requirements are there for MSDTC and the SQL Agent.
