SQL 2K out of memory

  • Err, has anyone encountered this:

I have a server running SBS 2003 and SQL 2K with 1 GB ram.  When I upgraded the ram to a total of 3 GB and run a DTS wizard or similair program I get:

    Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Procedure DW4R_SalesOrders_Sync, Line 61

OLE DB provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error. The provider ran out of memory.

I've adjusted the running memory configs in SQL, applied SQL2KSP4, killed unneccesary processes and booted all users off the box, to no avail.  What next? Stand on the head chanting please work?

If I remove the new memory I am back up and running.  Could the new ram be faulty or am I missing a crucial setting in SQL EM?

  • Sounds to me like defective RAM, especially if the machine returns to normal again after removing it.  Our guys have a tester in house but if you don't have one, a local shop may be able to test it for you for little or no charge.  But I'd be willing to bet that's your problem.

  • Thanks sswords. This machine is live so any changes are quite difficult. I will try other ram and let you know.
