  • Is that 3rd party tools have features of backup / restore at object level (like table) ?

  • SQL LiteSpeed now has a beta versiona available online that features object level restore.  This allows you to pull single tables out of a full native or litespeed backup file and either export them to a CSV file or export them via DTS into a new table.  This can greatly reduce your restore window especially in the situation where only one or two of your tables have become corrupted.

Feel free to download this beta version from our website (http://www.imceda.com) and pass along any feedback that you have.

  • For anyone that's interested, I've described in a little more detail the Microsoft VDI for third party backup software vendors here.

SQL BAK Explorer - read SQL Server backup file details without SQL Server.
Supports backup files created with SQL Server 2005 up to SQL Server 2017.

  • My 2c worth on this is, it all depends on cost and needs. I have a 30Gb database that needs to be backed up. We also need to keep at least 2 days worth of backups on line and the rest are archived off site. Storage was becoming a major problem so we opted for a 3rd party backup tool SQLLiteSpeed.

Not the cheapest, but very very powerful and easy to use. Got the backup down to 4.5GB in 6min. The only problem wis you need to buy restore agents if you want to use it to backup prod and resotre it on different servers. Cost for us was not a problem so we purchesed multipile licences.

So I guess it all comes down to your needs wants and costs.

    Hope this helps...
