A new system is to be deployed and I am trying to convice the system owners to use SQL Server 2000 instead of SQL Server 7. There only argument for this is that the backups have been done in 7 and we might run into Proplems restoring to 8. I believe we could migrate the data along with the database and therefore put a whole in their point .Any other good reason why I cn disuade them? Please help.

We've never had a problem restoring a MSSQL7 backup to a MSSQL2K database. It's one of the supported methods for upgrading from v7.0 to v2000. See Knowledge Base article 261334.
Other good reasons to upgrade? How about the fact that mainstream support for v7.0 will end on 12/31/2005? Or the enhancements made in v2000? See BOL "What's New?".

I've never had a problem restoring SQL7 to 2000 - just make sure you do un Update Stats. I can't think of any good reason to stick to 7 at all to be honest!

SQL2000: It's faster, it's more secure, and it has a SQL 7 compatiblity modus.
So, what is the problem?
