SQL Server 2008 BI suite

  • I'm downloading SQL Server 2008 from here: How to obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968382. It has the following link:

To obtain Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP3 CTP, visit the following Microsoft website:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=226850. Do I need to download SP1 and SP2? The SP3 link (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=226850) doesn't include the BI suite (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS).

  • It's installed after downloading sql server here https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/pd/SQLDCTP3CTA/enus/default.aspx

  • With microsoft all your SPs are superset of previous updates i.e SP3 contains SP1 and SP2.

If you apply SP3, that is more than sufficient. No need to apply SP1 and SP2.

Regarding BI suite, all BI related components SSAS, SSRS, SSIS included in the SQL Server installation CD. You can pick n choose which all the components requried during installation only.

Regarding patching for BI suite, while applying SPs we get a select window where we can choose the components for which we need to apply patch. This selection window includes SQL Server database engine, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, client componets etc.
