SQL Server 7.0 and Windows 2003

  • Does anyone know whether SQL Server 7.0 works under Windows Server 2003?

  • You will receive an error upon attempting to install. You might be able to bypass this, install 7.0 and get it working, even if you do it will not be supported by Microsoft. See http://support.microsoft.com/?id=810391

  •  Hi shaji09,

What are you doing upgrading to windows 2003 and not upgrading to SQL 2000.  Prob a good idea to upgrade to SQL 2000.  Good Luck

  • Thanks guys for the replies.

We just bought a new machine which is going to act as a server. The old/current server is basically knackered and is so slow and is running NT and SQL 7.

I thought it would be good to go straight to Windows 2003 and install SQL 7 on the new machine for the meantime and later upgrade to SQL2000. Main reason is that there is currently an urgency to resolve the speed issue. So I am going to get W2K instead until a proper IT strategy to upgrade is sought (when I get the time!)

  • Before migrating to Win2K make sure that you check out possible application issues related to differences in MDAC versions.
