I am trying to change sql server service account from local to a domain account but want to do without any downtime, is it possible?
can i just change the account and shedule a reboot on off peak time? i am just wondering does it stop sql server service during the changes.

for the change to take effect, the service must be restarted. Just like you need to log off for someone else to log on and use the same files on your PC.
You might be able to script the change, but I haven't tried it. It takes about 5 minutes. I'd just plan on doing it during a slow time.

I can think of no reason why this won`t work. Be aware that the change won`t take affect until the reboot though.
