Sql Server Licensing

  • Dear all,

Suppose I have installed Sql Server +User CAL in server A where the database has been deployed –concern to sql server 2008

In server B the .net application having framework 1.1 (IIS server) has been deployed and connection has been established between B -->A

    Here my questions

    1. Is it possible to connect N-number of user to the web application that resides on server

    2. Is the application server need to have .net frame work 2.0?

    Thanks,

    Nagesh

  • Hi Nagesh,

Licensing is a legal question. If you have 100 users using the webapp connecting to the SQL Server ,and you use the Server+CAL model, you need 100 CAL. Of course 200 users can use the application and it will work - but you violate the licensing.

On the application side, no need for .NET framework at all. If it's needed for your application, then install it, but you can use SQL Server from Linux or PHP if you want to do so.

  • Thanks Erik

So, it's better to go with per poceesor mode .

what does the statement "SQL Server License coverd by SA"

How can I find whehter the existing License coverd under SA .

    Thanks,
