Looks even worse at the end...  https://qa.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/812849/Todays-Random-Word?PageIndex=1786

That is the exact same post.

EDIT: I see that there is a page number in the link. Please tell me that the result of clicking a link does not depend on a person's profile "posts per page" setting...

  • I was really hoping that this was a thing of the past, but alas .....

I just got an "unexpected error" message when I tried to post a reply. And after hitting the back button, my reply was gone and I had to start over.

    *sigh*

EDIT: Spoke too soon. My reply was not gone. When I went back to the same message and hit "Reply" again, my message was already there. I only had to delete the second quote of the original message and I could post.

  • And another niggle, this time with new functionality...

The "Jump to first unread post" arrow that appears when you hover over a subject seems to be rather fickle and disappears a bit too quickly.

    This arrow.

It disappears at the most inconvenient moments, such as when I'm about to click on it.  (My desk is a bit slippery, and maybe my mouse moves a bit more quickly than yours...)

It seems that the word wrapping goes a bit odd at the end of a line. When you have a word that is long enough to go on to a new line, instead of it starting on a new line, the word ends up being getting split up. You end up with half the word on one line and the other half on the next. Not sure If I have replicated it in this post, but Thomas' post above does it on my screen:

Gah, yes, this is nasty. https://qa.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/604325/Are-the-posted-questions-getting-worse?PageIndex=5714#bm1850048

The word "offers" does not have a natural break. Why is it "o" on one line and "ffers" on the next line?

Ragged right margins should be set up so the words go down rather than cut off.

  • Request: Can the SQL Code IIF link be made easier to get to?
Currently it's 'hover over "Insert, click IIFCode, scroll way down the list to "SQL Code", click it". That's probably going to be the most common IIFCode shortcut used here, can it at least be at the top of the scroll list?

  • New layout just taking a bit of getting used to but will get there - seems to be quite a bit of white space.
    Less spam!
Seems slower although will give it a few more days
Think searching mechanism (incl. latest, popular, unread) could do with a parent category (SQL2016, 2012 etc...)
Where's the ability to search for 'my posts' gone?
How do you quote multiple people?
    Is there a tutorial anywhere?

    Thanks

    Hi Damian.
Thanks for the feedback. A couple of things... to Search, click the menu at top right, and pick the search option. That will give you a more advanced search:

To quote multiple people, click the little "+" button next to each reply you want to quote, and they will all be added to your post:

  • We've just deployed an update that should concatenate empty space at the start and end of posts, and fix the word wrapping.

Oh, that wordwrapping fix is gorgeous.  Fixes the real words, and still breaks lines wherever it feels like in URLs.  Thanks, guys!

Would you mind forwarding a few of them to me (robert.chipperfield@red-gate.com) so I can dig into where they're coming from?

    Top work.
I must say, this is very much better than the release to test a few weeks ago, which was littered with bugs.

  • One other request.
Would it be possible to get the username of the person who started the thread displayed on the "Latest Posts" view?

    Please?????
