SSRS 2016 - Headings in Subreports being removed in render

  • Hi All,

Thanks for the input in advance.  I’ve created a main report which features multiple sub reports.  Each sub report is in a box so that it can have a page break at the end of each report.  This is so that each report can appear on a separate sheet in Excel once it’s been exported.  Side note – is there a better way to force a page break without the box?

The problem is that each sub report has its page header stripped once rendered.  Apparently this is a feature rather than a bug and according to these answers:

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/c4f45c9a-82e6-4e07-8475-8a270a70f611/subreport-header-is-not-showing-inside-a-report-with-a-header-on-its-own?forum=sqlreportingservices

    https://qa.sqlservercentral.com/forums/topic/headerfooter-not-showing-up-in-subreport

the solution is to remove the page headers from the individual reports and then add them to the main report or move the 'header' to the body of the individual report.  However this is undesirable for our application.

There is however one link which mentions that there is another way to force the sub reports to be displayed:

    https://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/threads/showing-a-sub-reports-page-header-inthe-main-report.290353/

"Ok, just solved this...the solution was simple (& didn't involved any grouping spoken of in all the solutions I googled).

In the main report, withing Design View, select the 'detail' section at the top of the properties box ...there's an option in the to select "Show Page Header & footer" - select yes, voila, the page header in the sub report is now visible in the main report"

The problem is that I can’t seem to find the menu this person is referring to.  Can anyone else give any extra information on this?  Ideally with screenshots?

    Many Thanks

  • Thanks for posting your issue and hopefully someone will answer soon.

This is an automated bump to increase visibility of your question.

The link you posted is from an MS Access forum, not SSRS!

If you haven't even tried to resolve your issue, please don't expect the hard-working volunteers here to waste their time providing links to answers which you could easily have found yourself.
