TCP protocol does not startup after reboot

  • I am supporting an SQL2000 Standard Edition Server with Service Pack 4 running on Windows 2003 Server with Service Pack1 .

I rebooted the server  and then the users were unable to connect to the server and the message "Server does not exist or access denied " . The sql server errorlog was investigated and it was found that the the TCP protocol did not startup. What could be the reason for this ?

    Thanks.

    Lian

  • There can be multiple reasons

    1. The port for sql server is disabled

    2. The port for sql server is being used by another application

    3. TCP protocol has been disabled in Server Network utility

    4. TCP protocol DLL is corrupted. Check the DLL version & date

    Thanks,

    Satwinder..
