    Took a guess based on other objects having scopes at the session and global level like temp tables and variables, and got it right.

    Very cool. Nice question.

    Uh oh!

    Trace flags can also have statement scope, using the (undocumented) OPTION (QUERYTRACEON xxxx) syntax. Just saying.
