I'm looking into recommending that a customer upgrade from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. I only have preliminary information. I want to have an idea of what's involved before I get any further into this.
I'm having trouble figuring out the pricing. Microsoft's site explains it, but what's not clear is what's NOT mentioned. The customer has SQL Server 2000 (I don't know what edition), so there should be an upgrade price. Upgrade is just not mentioned, not even to say, "No there is no upgrade price." I saw reference to something called Software Assurance that might relate to upgrades. Whatever that is...
It's all making my head spin. I just want to know what kind of upgrade pricing exists without actually calling Microsoft, wandering through a phone menu, giving out my contact info and then getting return calls wondering when I'm going to buy something.
Does anyone know, is there an upgrade price or discount?

I don't think there is an upgrade option. Just a base price depending on what edition.
