VS2008 & Business Intelligence SQL Server 2005: 'Business Intelligence' does not appear.

  • Hello.

I am working at the moment under the scenario that follows. I have installed on my computer these elements:

    - Visual Studio 2005

    - Visual Studio 2008

    - SQL Server 2005 Express with Business Intelligence

When I open the 'New Project' window in VS2005, 'Business Intelligence' tree appears correctly in the list of the project types.

In VS2008 the item is ABSENT and thus a 'Business Intelligence' project cannot be created.

Is there, in your knowledge, an incompatibility between VS2008 and BI for SQLServer 2005 Express ?

Perhaps the only way of working with BI on VS2008 is upgrading to SQL Server 2008 ?

I thank you in advance for any help.

Unfortunately, that is correct. VS2008 cannot edit SQL 2005 SSIS packages. You need to have everything at 2008.

It is possible to execute 2005 packages from within 2008 - you just can't edit them.

    Hope this helps.
