What has to be installed to develop new reports?

  • We have IIS and Reporting Services installed on SQL Server 2005 SP4, Std x64, on a MS Windows 2003 R2, Std x64, virtual server; it has the Reporting Services database & temp database. Typically the reports are created by the DBA from the Business Intelligence Visual Studio. We now have a business analyst person that is going to a training class to learn how to develop reports.

This may sound pathetic .... but since we don't want this person to remote to the server and use the BIVS that is installed there, what all exactly needs to be installed on her personal machine? We want to make sure we are using software that is properly licensed so we don't want to buy anything that is not necessary but obviously whatever is the minimum required has to be installed.

    Thank you.

  • She can use her own copy of Visual Studio, and develop reports locally, and connect to the production Reporting Services server to upload the new reports.

  • You could have the dba set up some data models for the analyst and then give the analyst Report Builder.
