Your convert function looks fine to me...
I tried this and it worked:

you've answered the question to some degree. try using an account in sql server that has sufficient rights.

I 2nd Jack's idea. The last time, I had similar need involving multi-valued parameter, I ended up going the subreport route. Anyways, good luck.
