Is it possible that we see large physical disk io queues if sql is using more number of threads to perform the lookups from the tables than the sub system...

open up command prompt as administrator:

net start sqlserveragent

...or use xp_cmdshell to call external tools.

DBArtisan from Embarcadero has the tools you require. Unfortunately I don't have it on my system to tell you exactly what SP's it is using etc.
