Could you not just rsTemp.Close after reading the max value? Yes - I have seen the ADO objects keep information locked beyond the original intent. We had several lockups similar to this one. In our situation, we could use the NOLOCK because we were not updating that information. Guarddata-

All the clients are set to TCP. Its also very intermittent. For the vast majority of the time the connections are fine. Rolf

Yes that should work fine. There is a bug with this, if you are using multi protocol you must remove them and add it back.
