There are many commercial providers of address data. This would be better than attempting to make a web service call for each record in an ETL process.

The USPS one is free 😛

 The USPS web service, even if free and unlimited, doesn't scale for hundreds of thousands or millions of records.

  • However, one limitation of most commercially and publicly available address databases is that they don't include exact house number, but instead a range of valid numbers, so would have to perform a non-equijoin.

The USPS claims that privacy laws passed by Congress prohibit it from making available an exact street address database. Like all other databases based on the USPS ZIP+4 address database, the National ZIP+4 Address Database does not actually contain every street number to which mail can be delivered. Instead, the database contains more than 40 million address records, many of which define address ranges, especially in residential areas.
