Windows 8 Pro is on sale for $40.00 (U.S.) through the end of the month. It's a download.

    It's not that bad...

I've been using it here at work for a while, to get the hang of it before clients start getting it.

I'm thinking of buying a copy for VM so I can at least see what it looks. I mean, why not get a copy while it's cheap?

BTW, this came up at work: No Microsoft Products Stolen[/url]. Should we feel sorry for them?

You won't get the full feel for it if you don't have a touchscreen.

True, but when you allow for the fact that very few people have touchscreens and a lot of people are going to be upgrading existing PCs / laptops (without touchscreens) to Win8 for various reasons...

Better to get a feel of it now, rather than scrambling later...

  • My wife just got a new laptop with the touch screen and she really likes the integration with Win 8.

One thing to think about, if you have a tablet, you can RDP to a Win8 VM and use the touchscreen that way.

And they do make large touchpads that are like touchscreens that link to the computer through usb

Keep in mind that all but 1 of the current tablets running Win8 are running Win8rt, which has RDP but the VPN does not work on a CISCO VPN. There is apparently an argument between MS and CISCO about how should be writing the software. The next version of Surface which is supposed to come out in about 3 months is going to have Win8 Enterprise so that problem will go away.

My mantra: No loops! No CURSORs! No RBAR! Hoo-uh![/I]

My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?

    My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.

  • Anyone having issues with Reporting Services and iPad / iPhone opening Excel?

There is a Connect Issue open for 2012, but I see this in 2008 R2 also.

All I can find is send to file share, open in Excel and save, then email out.

Since we use Data Driven Subscriptions passing in many cases multiple parameters, 1 report can have hundred of variations.

If anyone has a better workaround, let me know.

This used to work, and has broken in the past.

I don't really care whether it is a Microsoft problem, or an Apple problem.

    They need to fix it.
