In this galaxy, the laws of physics are different (the best explanation of, well, everything in Star Wars) and space there is not the (almost) void that it is here. Yep, and light sabres simply aren't possible. You can't simply stop light after a set distance.
iirc they're plasma (same general principal as blaster bolts), not light.

I always thought they were powered by quantum black holes - they generate the energy and keep the photons from straying too far from the power source.

If that were the case, there'd be no need for the light part of the sabre at all except maybe as a range finder. You just get someone or something within range of the currently visible blade and is is torn apart by tidal forces. No need for all the silly dueling.

Any twitter folks here use a samsung galaxy? If so, what app do you recommend?About a week and a half ago, I bought my wife a Galaxy S3. While not an app per se, the coolest feature by far we've stumbled across is the ability to play music, vides and pictures through our Sony Internet TV. Simple as pressing an icon.
The other thing I like about the phone is that she's not exactly the computer-literate type, yet she's been able to configure everything herself (no need for my help). She asked me what our wi-fi key was and the next thing I know she's connected to our home network (hence the ability to play stuff on our TV).
Now I've been blessed with the task of upgrading our MP3 library, which I spent most of the New Year holiday on.
Which reminds me, Happy New Year to everyone in the SQLverse!
The Galaxy S3 rocks! My wife and I upgrade to those a few months ago. Totally awesome pocket tablets, with a nice phone included as a bonus. 🙂

The encryption piece doesn't even matter. What obviously happened is Vader left his laptop where a rebel could steal it. Probably lost it on the bus on the way to work. Even if the drive was encrypted, the rebels would quickly guess that "I am your father" is the password, and then they pwn his data easily.
Biometrics might keep out a person, but computer-to-computer requires strong security to prevent. Especially since R2D2 is inside their firewall since he's accessing via an internal connection. What's weird about it isn't that he's able to access it, it's that it requires a physical connection. Astromech droids don't have wi-fi????? I'd expect at least NFC via bluetooth for a bot that also seems to have everything in it from an arc torch to a kitchen sink. (And probably a chainsaw if he needed it.) What kind of moron engineer includes a periscope, but forgets a wireless connection?

It's not that bad...
I've been using it here at work for a while, to get the hang of it before clients start getting it. For the most part, I spend 99.999% of my time in the desktop, rather than on the "Start Menu" screen, so I've not really noticed a difference from Win7. I don't have a touch-enabled monitor (nor do I want one,) but once you get the hang of where to place the mouse for the various menus, it's OK.
Added a shutdown shortcut to the Start menu so I don't need to pull up one of the menus, and it's all good...
