Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Ok, those worked properly.

    This is seriously weird.

Edit: Anyone else seeing this? (I've already passed it on to Steve)

    It's a secret admirer.

  • Sorry, Gail. Rebuilt laptop on the road, no VPN, but I shall look into it.

Perhaps it is a secret admirer? Or Phil has started some new contest to see who can figure out he's PM'ing them from secret accounts.

No rush. Can wait til you're home. Just way puzzling

Is there a 'PM anonymously' option that I haven't seen?

2 of them are related to forum threads, so I can tie back who they're from. The one I got this morning (asking for help with DB mail), I have no idea who it's from.

  • There shouldn't be. I was puzzling over how someone could do this. We should not allow blank emails.

  • I don't think anyone's doing it intentionally. If they are, it's really silly, sending a message to someone asking for help and leaving no way for them to return said request.

I suspect there's a glitch somewhere causing it.

Can someone send me a PM please. There looks like there's something buggy, every PM I've received in the last week has been from 'Anonymous' and has no profile associated.

If you do send a PM, please include your name.

    Thanks

There is a member with the name 'Anonymous'

    Anon.

Okay, I'll admit it if I am wrong, but I'd really like a few others opinions on this one please.

My only problem is 30 years of experience just has my gut instincts pointing to the OS getting starved of memory due to the allocation of memory to the 3 instances of SQL Server.

No offence intended to anyone, but I've butted heads with someone in that thread a couple of times. Most recently on a corruption question where he was giving completely incorrect advice (emergency mode to rebuild a clustered index to fix corruption in said clustered index)

The problem there is VAS (virtual address space) fragmentation. Unfortunately, I don't know how to resolve it.

Let me guess, our friend from PSS? 😉

  • I want to thank you all for looking. I personally haven't run into this kind of issue on any of the servers I have managed in the past 12 or so years. I did Google the error message and what I found was similar but yet did not exactly match the error from the OP. Additional error messages existed in the links I found that were missiong from the OP's errors.

Still, slightly concerned about over allocating memory on the server. I think that alone is asking for trouble.

Yeah, but I don't think it's that. If you check the screen shot, there's no profile details, the name is not a hyperlink (as it normally is) and clicking 'reply' brings up the reply screen with an empty box.

Plus I know two of these PMs from 'anonymous' are from different people, because they're related to forum threads.

    ?

hi_abhay78. In a follow on post he disclosed he worked for PSS regarding SQL Server for 2.5 years.

Hey gang... I'm looking to take "She who must be obeyed" (in this case, both my wife and mother... ) to Niagra Falls. Does anyone here know anything about this area? I'm looking for when it would be not so hot, but not too chilly. Also, what all is there to do/see besides the falls, on both sides of the border?

    Thanks!

Let's see...there's gambling in the casinos, or if you want to drive a bit more, there's Niagara wine country on the Canadian side, I heard it's very nice, especially in the summer.

  • Gail it is your secret admirer for sure... 🙂

He just did not have the guts (Or he is scared out of his pants about your reaction) to put his name in it... lol

    Just kidding...

On another note, no one has seen this error?

"Please create a master key in the database or open the master key in the session before performing this operation.

Changed database context to 'DB1'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)" That guy is just setting up a subscriber.

    -Roy

  • Pretty sure that's from an encrypted database Roy. I posted on it.
