I am new to sql server .....but from this topic I understand/decide that ,
you are beginner or expert , first do best try to get answer from BOL and google(to be technically sound)
If you cant get then post.I had never questions good one or bad which one unanswered by this forum.
So, it is not advisable to get experts to look in some local(silly) matters.

Very few people in here would claim to be experts. I sure don't. But the initial complaint, 6000+ posts ago, was that there are far too many people that don't do the basic due diligence of checking BOL as you point out. It's when people treat sites like this as the manual rather than read the manual that were causing the issue.
Dive in, post what you know, research & test what you don't. If no one else has said it, welcome to the forums.

There is a member with the name 'Anonymous'Yeah, but I don't think it's that. If you check the screen shot, there's no profile details, the name is not a hyperlink (as it normally is) and clicking 'reply' brings up the reply screen with an empty box.
Plus I know two of these PMs from 'anonymous' are from different people, because they're related to forum threads.
The only reason I mentioned it that it is strange coincidence that the name is exactly the same including the capital A, maybe the 'glitch' is the wrong member id is used somehow :blink:

PS I have yet to come across a system that ended up needing the -g switchI have. Previous company we had one server that was used for a lot of DTS packages to fetch data from various systems across the company, a couple of extended stored procs that fetched data from one of the mainframes and lots of scheduled jobs that used openquery to get data from even more places. It was a staging server and from there the main server (Monstrosity of an Itanium) would pick that data up and load it into the main DB.
It was 32 bit because one of the drivers was only 'stable' on 32 bit. We had -g set way up, somewhere around 780 iirc, and we still had to restart SQL every 2 weeks. With default -g, it would crash half way through the overnight jobs.
Memory leaks inside the SQL process space are no fun. Still better than the IA64 version of that driver that had a tendency to overwrite the thread stacks inside SQL.
Ah yes - SQL 2K on Itanium. Never tried it myself, but you hear stories...
My one experience with Itaniums (Itania?) was on 2K5 - a couple of UniSys ES7000s. 16 real processors on each node of the (MSCS) cluster - not cores, real proper processors - at 1.6GHz! I really liked that system - despite it's quirks (especially with HBAs). Ah those were the days. Never again, mind you.

Hey gang... I'm looking to take "She who must be obeyed" (in this case, both my wife and mother... ) to Niagra Falls. Does anyone here know anything about this area? I'm looking for when it would be not so hot, but not too chilly. Also, what all is there to do/see besides the falls, on both sides of the border?Thanks!
Hi Wayne, I spent a few years in Buffalo so I know a bit of the touristy stuff to do. 1) It's all on the Canadian side. The US side closes up at 6:00 PM. 2) Go when the Maid of the Mist ride is open, which means April/May to October. The Maid of the Mist is fun... and wet.
There is a pretty neat shopping mall nearish by, Maple Leaf Mall I think it is called. It also has a Ferris wheel nearby so it's easy to spot. There are a lot of tourist trap places near the mall to walk around and explore, dare devil museums and the usual stuff.
I'm not sure when they do it, it might be a year round thing now, but there is a light show on the falls (by the way, the Canadian side of the falls is way better than the American side) and they also have a light show in a park near the falls which I think is now year round. It's big light boards of various characters, cartoon, Disney, etc., pretty neat to look at and wander around.
And, as said before, there are some vineyards and stuff, might want to look for Colonial historical sites as well, not too familiar with those but I know they exist. There are some neat places in Saint Catherine's to visit, quaint I believe is the word to describe it.
Also, if you have the time, a trip to the Toronto Science Center might be in the calling.
There might be some more stuff on the American side to do since I was there last (as a tourist over 20 years ago), like there is a Hard Rock Cafe on the American side I believe, but when I drove through there a few years ago, it didn't look like much had changed.
Since most of the tourist stuff is on the Canadian side, remember your passports so you can get back into the US. (And by the way, I'm American, it's just all the good stuff that I remember is on the Canadian side. - Go Canucks! 🙂 )
As for the time to go, I would recommend early summer or late summer. You'll want an excuse to wear a jacket around the falls, it's wet (for some odd reason. 😉 ). The spray from the falls will be warmer in the late summer, so that might be a factor.

I want to thank you all for looking. I personally haven't run into this kind of issue on any of the servers I have managed in the past 12 or so years. I did Google the error message and what I found was similar but yet did not exactly match the error from the OP. Additional error messages existed in the links I found that were missiong from the OP's errors.Still, slightly concerned about over allocating memory on the server. I think that alone is asking for trouble.
PSS-man did a good job on that thread; so credit where it's due.
Are you sure he's over-allocating? My guess is that the instances aren't (yet?) trying to use all the available memory between them. That said, I seem to remember AWE being a bit of a nightmare on 2000 - especially with multiple instances - there must be more going on than we've seen...?
It scary how much I don't remember about 2000: learning 2008 and keeping 2005 in my head for work leaves very few buffer pages for 2000-related data...

Let's see...there's gambling in the casinos, or if you want to drive a bit more, there's Niagara wine country on the Canadian side, I heard it's very nice, especially in the summer.

I love it up there, we're only 5 1/2 hours away, and actually going this weekend. Canadian side is definitely better than the American (you need a passport if coming from US, or drivers license and birth certificate if you're driving in), but if you've never been, you should buy the Niagara Parks Adventure Pass (http://www.niagaraparks.com/). Gets you on Maid of the Mist, the cable car over the whirlpool, Journey Behind the Falls (Canadian side), Cave of the Winds (American side, very cool), White Water Walk, Butterfly Conservatory, etc. Worth the money, definitely.
Our favorite location is the Embassy Suites (lots of hotels though), then take the Incline railway down the hill rather than walking the four blocks around. Clifton Hill has all sorts of carnival-type attractions, restaurants, Skylon has a revolving dining room, etc. etc.
Niagara-On-The-Lake has lots of shops, wine country, farmer's markets (just follow the River Road to the north from the Falls) and if you are feeling adventurous, you can ride the JetBoats (http://www.whirlpooljet.com/), although be warned that it can be intense. I thought it'd be fun, but after drinking half the river, not sure I'd go again. Covered one, maybe, but probably not the open boat.
If you go south one mile from the falls, you get to Marineland, where you can not only see killer and beluga whales and other marine wildlife, but you can feed corn pops to brown bears (my favorite), buffalo, elk, ride a roller coaster (quite a fun one too).
There are all sorts of bike paths and trails along the river, so if you're into that, you can spend lots of time just traversing the gorge.
B&B's abound, hotels from super-fancy to modest, so you can stay for just about any budget.
We've been in May (nice, but the water's pretty cold, so not a great time for the boats), July can be hot, but this weekend looks great, 70s. September is the recommendation we got from locals, not a lot of crowds, still warm enough to do everything, plus you can just hang out.

If all three instances try to go to max memory levels, then yes it is more than the physical memory in the server. I guess my problem is how PSS-man responded to my obvious guess (I had even prefaced my post as such). Had he been more tactful and perhaps explained in some detail the possible problem, perhaps some links to support the discussion, I would not have reacted in a defensive manner. It is one of my faults.
As indicated earlier, I have never encountered VAS problems in 12 years of working with MS SQL Server, so it isn't something I would (could) consider. I tend to go with my gut on certain errors, and until shown or find out otherwise, I don't have anything else to go on. Now I have learned something new. Hopefully I'll remember it.

Been there, done that, would rather jump off the Space Needle than do it again.
SQL 2005 on Itanium's a joy. 2000 would crash if you looked at it funny. The compile of SQL 2000 onto Itanium was a 'quick and dirty', while 2005 was developed from the start to work on x86, x64 and IA64.
Nothing like getting an alert like this from the server:
Process 8 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating.
