...Gail, in ancient Geece you would have been a goddess in the Geek pantheon.

So what you're saying is around 137 BC she'd be a goddess in the Geek pantheon to 42% of the known world?

    Precisely

    Exactly 🙂

The question I have always had is about the "known" part. Known to whom? I mean, after all, 58% of the the world didn't know about the ancient Geeks! I personally see myself as a deity in some minor civilization's pantheon... with a very limited scope of responsibility... maybe the god of function keys... even the tilde key would be nice.

  • The question that came to my mind with @SelectDate = getdate() - 365 is that it implies a date-only value. That is, there's nothing there to strip off the clock time.

I think that was a good answer.

I feel another blog rant coming.

See if you can include that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_authority link. Very cool.

Other thing that frustrates me, along the same lines, is people insisting that a specific feature is deprecated when it's not.

Heh. Like CONVERT, DBCC SQLPERF, and COALESCE? I think I have read threads claiming all those are deprecated recently...

The thing that bothers me most is getting distracted by dealing with the incorrect claims rather than getting on with answering the OP.

    Ah well.

Heh... I wish MS would deprecate deprecation and start supporting some of the undocumented code they use to run SQL Server with.

Isn't Bob's/Dixie's article an excellent read today?

Shame about some of the layout, but hopefully that will be fixed soon.

    Most enjoyable.

    It is, indeed!

    In fact it is as bad as DATEADD(DAY, DATEDIFF(DAY, 0, CURRENT_TIMESTAMP), 0).

All right Paul, edumacate me. Why is this bad?

Zero is not a date any more than 365 is 😉

Heh... I just can't see writing it this way...

    DATEADD(DAY, DATEDIFF(DAY, CAST('19000101' AS DATETIME), CURRENT_TIMESTAMP), CAST('19000101' AS DATETIME))

Good point. I've used that one. Easy enough to put an explicit date in there. Same way I do when I need to do seconds or minutes in that same kind of calculation.

I assume that by "explicit date" you mean something like '1900-01-01'... and that's not a date either... that's a string that looks like a date. 😛

Yep. I think an arbitrary date makes the purpose of the function easier to see as well. Zero just looks like black magic.

heh... and now we know why I love it. 😀

I got my $500 yesterday. If I can write an article there, anyone here can write it for sure. 🙂

You wrote an article for the standard? What's the link so we can go read it.

It has not been published yet. Still more people in front of the queue. 🙂

What is the subject matter for your article, Roy?
